How To Store My Coal

It is important your coal is stored correctly so none of it goes to waste. Here are our tips on the best way to store coal and keep it dry:

Invest in a Coal Bunker - using a robust, weather tight coal bunker to store your coal will stop the rain from entering and keep your fuel dry. Typically constructed from plastic or galvanised steel, they are the easiest option to easily, cleanly and safely store your fuel. If you have the space for one they are an extremely durable solution which are hard wearing and easy to assemble. If you are looking for an alternative solution consider an old wheelie bin.

Location - make sure that whatever bunker you go for that it is placed in the correct location. The fuel should not ideally be placed directly on the floor or in any area which may pool with water. Also make sure that there are no overhanging branches or gutters which may drip on to the fuel.

Access - it is important that your bunker is easy to refill and dispense the solid fuel. Reduce the need for shovelling and bending and lifting as much as possible. Make sure the route to and from your bunker or store is not blocked and is easily accessible

Security - consider whether your bunker needs a padlock or other locking mechanism

Manufacture - make sure your store is made from an appropriate material so that it is strong and robust, is waterproof and will not rot or rust

Rotation - when storing your fuel make sure you have an ability to rotate your fuel so that what was placed in first is first out. This ensures that the older fuel gets used up and does not deteriorate.
